Everything about Google's 20th Birthday

The Birth
September 4, 1998

Remember 1998? I suppose a significant number of people reading this probably weren't even born.

But, to put things in perspective: The world had just heard the name Monica Lewinsky, and Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and Wyclef Jean's "Gone Till November" were among the top songs of the year. Saving Private Ryan and There's Something About Mary was in theaters.

A long time ago, in other words.

And that's why it's so impressive (to put it mildly) that Sergey Brin and Larry Page, two graduate students at Stanford who had no background in entrepreneurship, launched the company that became Google.

They incorporated on September 4, 1988, reportedly because investor Andy Bechtolsheim wrote them a $100,000 check, and they couldn't deposit it without an incorporated company.

They saw the future.  We probably didn't. So it goes.

Who is the headquarters of Google?
The Googleplex is the corporate headquarters complex of Google and its parent company Alphabet Inc... It is located at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway in Mountain View, California, United States, near San Jose.

When was Google first used?
Originally the search engine used Stanford's website with the domain google.stanford.edu. The domain google.com was registered on September 15, 1997. They formally incorporated their company, Google, on September 4, 1998, in their friend Susan Wojcicki's garage in Menlo Park, California.

Who founded Google and in what year?

"Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University. Together, they own about 14 percent of its shares and control 56 percent of the stockholder voting power through supervoting stock. They incorporated Google as a privately held company in 1998.”

Intel and 5G : Official Reports

At the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) in Rome, Intel revealed the specs of their new silicon photonics receivers designed to provide communications service and cloud providers with the hardware to support 5G wireless network expansion.

As stated in Intel's press release, the new 100G silicon photonics transceivers are designed out of the box to fit the bandwidth requirements of next-gen 5G wireless network infrastructure while also being able to face the most severe environmental conditions.

Intel's Silicon Photonics 100G CWDM4 (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing 4-lane) QSFP28 Optical Transceiver with Extended Temperature comes with dual rate 40Gbps/100Gbps CPRI and eC-PRI and with more than 10 km duplex single-mode fiber reach.

Furthermore, the low power consumption 100G CWDM4 transceiver is capable of operating at a temperature range of -20 to 85°C with a maximum of 3.5W power dissipation.

The newly unveiled weather-hardened transceiver is capable of providing high-speed 5G connectivity for enterprise data centers and large-scale cloud providers, as well as operate with any other types of equipment using a router, Ethernet switch, and client-side telecom interfaces.

Intel also revealed specifics about their 400 Gbps silicon photonics...
100G CWDM4 transceiver's 10km range will also allow wireless carriers to build upon already existing fiber optic networks which use 4G connectivity and boost their speeds to 100 Gbps to have them ready to take on the much faster 5G network traffic.

During ECO-C, Intel also unveiled more details on their 400 Gbps silicon photonics, previously demoed at the Optical Fiber Conference in March.

The tech company will begin delivering 400 Gbps DR4 silicon photonics module samples to customers starting with Q4 ‘18, while production will begin volume production in 2H ’19.

"By extending this technology outside the data center and into 5G infrastructure at the edge of the network, we can provide the same benefits to communications service providers while supporting 5G fronthaul bandwidth needs,” said Dr. Hong Hou, vice president, and general manager of Intel’s Silicon Photonics Product Division.

Windows 10 Build 17763 Said to Be October 2018 Update RTM

Microsoft is now giving the finishing touches to Windows 10 October 2018 Update (also known as Redstone 5 and version 1809), and the RTM build is expected any minute now.

And according to several sources, Windows 10 build 17763 may be the lucky number, as Microsoft has picked it as RTM ahead of the global rollout projected to kick off next month.

Build 17763 has already been released to users in the Fast ring earlier this month, and last week, it was promoted to the Slow ring as well. Typically, this happens when builds are considered to be more stable and come with increased reliability.

If this build is indeed the RTM of the October 2018 Update, it should be pushed to users in the Release Preview ring as well sometime in the coming days. All insiders would get the RTM to build by the end of the month, with Microsoft to release other cumulative updates to fix the remaining bugs.

RTM signed off on September 21
This means that users installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update on day one would get an update too in order to resolve the issues that Microsoft discovered in the remaining time.

Both WZor, who has previously been a reliable source for Windows scoops, and borncity.com point to evidence that builds 17763 is October 2018 Update RTM, though until now, Microsoft hasn’t provided any information in this regard.

An alleged release schedule of the October 2018 Update that leaked earlier this month suggested that Microsoft planned to sign off the RTM build in mid-September, and according to WZor, this milestone was reached on September 21. Windows 10 build 17763 was released to the Slow ring on September 20.

Interestingly, build 17763 came with two different known issues, but if this is the RTM build, we assume that Microsoft has already resolved them and they would be fixed on all systems with a cumulative update.

Mozilla Firefox 62.0.2 Now Available for Download

Mozilla has recently released a new update to Firefox browser, but just as expected, the focus has been entirely on fixing bugs and improving performance.

Firefox 62 was officially published earlier this month, and since then, new versions have been all about resolving the issues that users discovered in the browser.

Firefox 62.0.2 makes no exception, so it doesn’t come with any new features, but the changelog is worth a look anyway, especially if this is your daily browser. The full changelog is available in the box after the jump.

First and foremost, it’s worth knowing that this new release resolved a bug that caused bookmarks which weren’t visited before to show up as autofill suggestions in the address bar. Mozilla says this occurred in the case of users who had bookmarks of websites they never visited or after cleaning the browser history.

New version available on all platforms
There are also improvements specifically aimed at language packs, and Mozilla says the following in the release notes of this new build:

“Fixed a fallback option in Firefox when language packs are missing on startup (Avast/AVG deleted language packs which in combination with the bug caused Firefox to show a yellow window with

The new version of Firefox also comes with refinements to prevent crashes happening when profiles are shared between a current and a new build of the browser, but also to restore window size and position when the app is restarted on Windows.

Overall, Firefox 62.0.2 is all about the little details, and although you may not notice anything major after installing it, the overall browsing experience should be improved on all platforms.

You can download Mozilla Firefox 62.0.2 for Windows, Linux, and macOS from Softpedia using these links (or you can just rely on the built-in update engine if the browser is already installed on the system).
