NVIDIA‘s GeForce 397.93 Update New Game Ready Driver

NVIDIA has announced the availability of its new Game Ready Graphics driver, namely the 397.93 GeForce update, which improves performance for The Crew 2 Closed Beta and State of Decay 2 titles.

(PLEASE READ CAREFULLY)

In addition to that, the current release includes support for CUDA 9.2, removes the bug that prevented enabling/disabling SLI mode when Steam was running and fixes the Wolfenstein II freeze events seen in the Roosevelt area.

Moreover, version 397.93 makes sure GeForce GTX 870M GPU acceleration is not used for Windows Explorer, removes a glitch in Digital Vibrance setting (regarding Surround), and resolves the Far Cry 5 green flickering encountered when using HDR with non-native resolution.

Last but not least, NVIDIA also addresses a few issues regarding Pascal GPU + Kepler GPU combination, removes the Experience Improvement Program from the NVIDIA Control Panel, and makes sure all color formats are available when Windows HDR is enabled.

As for the operating systems, the update is compatible with both 32- and 64-bit variants of Microsoft’s Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 platforms (either desktop or notebooks). Also, take into account that NVIDIA TITAN V configurations running on Windows 7 64-bit require a separate driver.

Regarding installation, ensure this release supports your GPU model, save and run the appropriate package for your OS, follow all on-screen instructions, and perform a system reboot to allow all changes to take effect properly.

That said, download NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Driver 397.93, apply it on your computer, and regularly check our website to be aware when a newer version is available for download.

Avast Antivirus Blamed for Breaking Down Windows 10 April 2018 Update

The experience with Windows 10 April 2018 Update has been far from flawless, and now we’re seeing reports of a new bug pushing systems to a black screen after completing the upgrade.

At first glance, it looks like the issue is caused by Avast Antivirus, and an in-depth description of the problem posted on reddit indicates that more systems have experienced the same symptoms in the last couple of days.

This could be living proof that a recent Avast update might have broken down compatibility with Windows 10 April 2018 Update, eventually causing errors that users can only resolve with a complete Windows reinstall.

Systems running Avast antivirus are presented with three boot options after upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update from Windows Update: Windows Rollback, and Windows 10 on Volume appearing twice. While the first option triggers a reboot, the other two attempt to complete the boot, only to end up on a blank, black desktop with no icons, and a desktop loading error message.

Avast Says Windows 10 April 2018 Update Crashes Not Caused by Its Antivirus

While the number of bugs in Windows 10 April 2018 Update is huge (and growing every day), there are a few of them that appear to be more widespread than others.

One of the most recent that’s part of this category reportedly bricks Windows 10 PCs upgraded to the April 2018 Update, and the culprit was believed to be Avast antivirus.

As we reported yesterday, some of the users upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update and running Avast antivirus ended up with their computers broken down due to what was believed to be a compatibility issue with this security solution. Users said their systems could no longer boot and ended up with a black screen.

But in a statement for The Reg, Avast says that it investigated all these reports and by the looks of things, its antivirus cannot be blamed for these problems.

Don’t blame Avast

The company said that it’s aware a small number of users hit such problems, though right now, there’s absolutely no problem with the antivirus solution.

“We have tested this and couldn't identify any problems affecting Avast Antivirus consumer users specifically. Online user comments show that many are unfortunately experiencing problems updating to Windows 10 ‘1803’. We cannot rule out that a small number of Avast users may be having difficulties updating, too, but we don't see any indications that this is caused by Avast,” the company was quoted as saying.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has remained completely tight-lipped on this bug, and while the company might be aware of the issue, it’s not exactly known when a fix could be expected. The next Patch Tuesday takes place on June 12, and obviously, a cumulative update for Windows 10 April 2018 Update is also likely to land, though there’s still no configuration that this problem would be addressed.

REALITY IS,
The antivirus solution from developer AVAST Software comes in many flavors and most users opt for the free edition for obvious reasons. This does not make it any less reliable, however. The program features intuitive, advanced and customizable scanning methods along with other modules dedicated to computer safety.
