Microsoft has officially launched Windows 10 May 2020 Update, or version 2004, for production devices (computers not enrolled within the Windows Insider program).
Just as expected, the May 2020 Update is being unrolled piecemeal to systems across the planet, because the company wants to shop for longer to detect issues within the early phases.
However, users running Windows 10 version 1903 and version 1909 can manually trigger the download of the May 2020 Update by checking for updates in Windows Update on their devices.
“To make sure you still have a reliable, productive experience together with your Windows 10 devices, we are taking a measured and phased approach to how we provide the May Update, initially limiting availability to those devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 who seek the update via Windows Update,” Microsoft explains.
“We will closely monitor the May 2020 Update experience and share timely information on the present rollout status and known issues (open and resolved) across both feature and monthly updates via the Windows release health dashboard and @WindowsUpdate.”
Phased rollout
Needless to mention, the download and installation process of Windows 10 May 2020 Update is nearly completely automatic. After checking for updates in Windows Update, version 2004 should show up and you'll click “Download and install” to start the installation.
Of course, installing the May 2020 Update takes a short time, but this all depends on your system also. you're allowed to settle on the time to start the installation – note, however, that the “Download and install” option only shows abreast of devices running Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909.
For the nonce, we aren’t conscious of any issues experienced during or after the installation of the May 2020 Update for production devices, but more information should surface within the coming days. We’ll keep an eye fixed on everything associated with this update and allow you to know with follow-up posts as they happen.
